Job vacancy starting: 16.08.2026 | Working hours: 40.00 | Classification CBA: §48 VwGr. B1 lit. b (postdoc). Limited contract until: 15.08.2027.

Your professional field of activity:

The Kurt Gödel Research Center for Mathematical Logic (KGRC), led by Univ.-Prof. Matthias Aschenbrenner, PhD, is part of the Faculty of Mathematics at the University of Vienna. We are looking for a Senior Scientist to conduct research in model theory and to initiate an effort in computer-based formalization of foundational concepts and results in model theory, in particular, the theory of o-minimal structures and tame geometry.

Your future tasks:

• You have an excellent research profile in mathematical logic (model theory).
• You publish in peer-reviewed journals and give presentations at international meetings.
• You take the lead in the computer-based formalization of foundational results of model theory, in particular, the theory of o-minimal structures and tame geometry.
• You are in charge of the scientific coordination of third-party funded projects at the KGRC.
• You supervise Bachelor, Master, and Doctoral students in mathematics.
• You hold courses independently, both in German and English.
• You participate in evaluation measures and quality assurance.
• You actively contribute to administrative tasks.

Required Qualifications/Position Requirement:

• A completed doctorate in mathematics, with certificate of completion provided before the start of the contract.
• A research profile in model theory, especially o-minimal structures.
• Outstanding expertise proven through international publications and presentation experience.
• Excellent abilities to work in a team.
• Excellent command of English, both written and spoken.
• Supervision and teaching experience in model theory in German and English.
• Proven ability to acquire competitive third-party funding is a strong additional asset.
