The Faculty of Mathematics at the University of Vienna is the largest Austrian institution of mathematical research and tertiary education in the mathematical sciences. It consists of active research groups in a wide range of fields, starting from logical foundations, bridging all classical core subjects, and up to concrete applications in industry.

Your professional field of activity:
We are looking for a postdoctoral university assistant to complement the research team around Univ.-Prof. Ilaria Perugia, PhD.
The focus of our research is in the area of Numerical Methods for Partial Differential Equations with emphasis on standard and non standard finite element methods with applications to wave propagation problems and nonlinear reaction-diffusion problems. The start of the contract is October 1st, 2026 or later. The start of the contract is negotiable. The employment period is three years from the beginning of the contract.
Your future tasks:
Active participation in research, teaching and administration, which means:
- Collaboration and research in the field of Numerical Methods for Partial Differential Equations: Identifying and addressing research questions as part of Prof. Perugia's research group; innovative development, analysis, and implementation of numerical models.
- Interdisciplinary collaboration: Willingness to participate in international and interdisciplinary research; participation in international conferences and workshops.
- Collaboration in teaching and administration: Independent participation in the administration of the institute, teaching and research; independent participation in and teaching of courses in accordance with the provisions of the collective bargaining agreement.
Required Qualifications/Position requirement:
- Doctorate in mathematics, completed and certificate provided in due time before the start of the contract.
- Emphasis in one or more of the following areas: Numerical Analysis, Scientific Computing.
- Research competence and initiative demonstrated through international publications in peer relevant media.
- Excellent command of English, both written and spoken.
- Goal-oriented personality and high motivation to strive for scientific excellence.
