Our Group

MIND-MAP (Microglia Integrative Network of Dynamics - Morphology, Analysis, and Prediction) is an interdisciplinary and international FWF WEAVE project between Siegert (Austria), Dłotko (Poland), and Hahn (Czech Republic) groups to investigate how the dynamic 3D morphology of microglia reflects their functional states in the healthy adult brain. The project combines state-of-the-art microscopy, machine learning, numerical modeling, and topological data analysis to develop next-generation computational tools for quantifying microglial morphology and dynamics. MIND-MAP aims to establish a predictive framework that links cell shape to brain function and to generate open-source methods for the quantitative analysis of complex cellular morphology.

Your Responsibilities

  • Develop novel mathematical and computational methods for the analysis of multidimensional biological image data, including designing algorithms for image segmentation, geometric and topological shape analysis, temporal dynamics, and statistical modeling of complex cellular structures.
  • Apply mathematical methods, quantitative, and computational approaches to biological questions while collaborating closely with experimental neuroscientists.

Your Profile

  • A PhD or close to completion in applied mathematics, computer science, computational science, data science, biomedical engineering, or a related quantitative discipline with proven application to biology and neuroscience questions.
  • Strong background in mathematical modeling, scientific computing, image analysis, machine learning, computational geometry, topology, or related fields.
  • Demonstration of innovative scientific results obtained during the PhD and communication skills.
  • Verifiable experience developing computational methods and writing high-quality, maintainable scientific software, preferably in Python, MATLAB and/or C++. Experience in standard bioimaging analysis tools such as Fiji is a plus.
  • Experience in version control and project collaboration using GitHub.
  • Ability to work independently while thriving in an interdisciplinary research environment.
  • Fluency in spoken and written English.
