Job title:  Material Expert (m/f/d)

Job family:  Engineering
Business area:  Andritz Group
Contract location:

Graz, Styria, AT

Working location:  Graz, Styria, AT
Location type:  Office Location / Office-based
Contract type:  Permanent
Job description:

Every day, ANDRITZ continues to deliver successful innovative solutions to our customers globally. Why are we so successful? Because we are passionate and love what we do! We are at the forefront of future engineering technologies, with solutions that ensure the success of our clients in key industries that are shaping the future of the world we live in.

In our Group Quality & Safety Management department (GQS) we are looking for a Material Expert (m/f/d) to support us at our Material Competence Center. The preferred location for this position is either the headquarter in Graz or any ANDRITZ office in Europe.

Your tasks

Material consultancy and failure analysis

  • Your focus will be to provide material-related guidance for engineering and design teams as well as project and product managers

    • Expert consultation, particularly in the field of metallic materials and their manufacturing processes.
    • Material selection for components and systems based on operational requirements
    • Evaluation of material properties and performance in real applications
    • Identification of practical solutions for material-related challenges (e.g. wear, corrosion, manufacturing constraints)
    •  Alignment of ANDRITZ machines and systems requirements with alloy design, properties and manufacturing
  • You will conduct material failure analyses to determine root causes, and you will propose mitigation strategies.
  • You will support quality engineers in issuing technical delivery rules and dealing with non-conformities.
  • You will develop thermodynamic simulation competence within the group and support material development and evaluation.
  • You will plan and execute material projects in alignment with R&D and engineering managers. You will work in interdisciplinary teams to develop innovative, comprehensive technical solutions.
  • You will collaborate closely with national and international material research and testing institutes.

Technical consultancy

  • FMEA: Get prepared to moderate FMEA’s for projects with low to moderate technological readiness level. GQS will be challenged with a rising demand for moderation as FMEA’s are now becoming mandatory for certain project profiles. You will take over a share of those moderations once the training is completed.
  • Root Cause Analysis (RCA): Identify the fundamental reasons why a problem or event occurred, instead of just addressing the symptoms.  You will assist the ANDRITZ organization in performing RCAs and, if necessary, actively participate within your field of expertise.
  • Promote communication: Material Competence Center has to demonstrate its business impact and relevance to increase the overall Quality of ANDRITZ Group. You will be asked to prepare Best Practice and Success Stories, that R&D Services publishes on its Sharepoint.

Your profile

  • Master’s degree and ideally a PhD in Material Science or Metallurgy
  • Experience in alloy design, microstructure-property relationships and manufacturing processes of steel and metallic materials.
  • Experience in thermodynamic simulation
  • Willingness and ability to work in interdisciplinary teams.
  • Good level of English and German, written and spoken. Other languages are a plus.
  • Strong interpersonal and team working skills, sound judgment and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to maintain strong network relations to stakeholders within a global organization
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to understand technical problems in design, engineering, and operation of machines and processes and to identify material-based solutions.
  • Ability to work on multiple projects in a highly structured and organized manner.
  • Good knowledge of MS Office Suite (e.g. Excel, Power Point, Copilot).
  • Willingness to travel up to 30% to our locations, factories and construction sites worldwide

ANDRITZ AG

Graz
