Your personal sphere of influence:

The Institute of Materials Chemistry at the Faculty of Chemistry is offering a position as Ph.D. student (prae doc) limited for four years in the field of polymer solutions and complex fluids. Your future position will be in the internationally outstanding and interdisciplinary Polymer & Composite Engineering (PaCE) group, characterised by excellent research in polymers and composite materials as well as in applied research in the area of complex fluids. In addition to research a successful candidate will teach in undergraduate lab courses in the field of Physical Chemistry and Materials Chemistry.

The employment duration is 4 years. Initially limited to 1.5 years, the employment relationship is automatically extended to 4 years if the employer does not terminate it within the first 12 months by submitting a non-extension declaration.

Your future tasks:

You actively participate in research, teaching & administration, which means:

  • You are involved in research projects and scientific studies in the area of polymers in solution and complex fluids.
  • We expect you to finalize your dissertation agreement within 12-18 months.
  • You work on your dissertation and its completion.
  • You teach within the scope of the provisions of the collective bargaining agreement.
  • You take on administrative tasks in research, teaching and administration.
  • You will present your research at international conferences and in peer-reviewed journals.
  • You develop your IT user skills: especially Microsoft Office, Origin, Python or Labtalk.
  • You communicate in English (written and spoken).

This is part of your personality:

  • Completed Master's degree or Diploma, in the field of Chemistry, Materials Chemistry, Chemical Engineering and similar fields
  • Basic knowledge in Polymer Chemistry is required, experience in polymer synthesis and characterization is desirable.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Eager to deal with complex challenges.
  • Basic experience in academic writing and with research methods.
  • Excellent command of written and spoken English (C1 Level), furthermore good command of German is desirable.
  • Basic IT skills in Office and programming (e.g. Python) are required, Origin knowledge is an advantage.
  • You should be a team player with high social skills

Fair salary: The basic salary of EUR 3.776,10 (on a full-time basis) increases if professional experience can be credited.
