Präklinische Wirksamkeitsstudien an Nagermodellen laufen in Grambach über Wochen: Tiere in individuell belüfteten Käfigen, Verhaltenstests in eigenen, akustisch getrennten Räumen, danach Histologie und proteinbiochemische Auswertung von Aggregaten und Biomarkern. Neun Tierhaltungsräume und sieben Räume für Verhaltensanalytik sind dafür eingerichtet, dazu Zellkulturlabore der Sicherheitsstufen 1 und 2.
Rechtsträger ist die Scantox Neuro GmbH, eingetragen im Firmenbuch des Landesgerichts für Zivilrechtssachen Graz unter FN 185179y, UID ATU47660204, mit Sitz in Parkring 12, 8074 Grambach. Das Unternehmen wurde 1999 gegründet und firmierte zunächst als JSW-Research Forschungslabor GmbH, später als JSW Lifesciences GmbH und ab 2012 als QPS Austria GmbH. Grambach ist der einzige österreichische Standort; die Gruppe unterhält weitere Betriebe in Lille Skensved und Ballerup (Dänemark), Lund und Mölndal (Schweden) sowie im Alderley Park bei Manchester (Großbritannien). Bearbeitet werden Modelle zu Alzheimer, Parkinson, ALS, Chorea Huntington, Multipler Sklerose und Lipidspeichererkrankungen. Die Tierhaltung ist AAALAC-akkreditiert, am Standort arbeiten über 80 Beschäftigte.
Ausgeschrieben werden Positionen als Study Director, in der Veterinärmedizin, als Preclinical Research Assistant oder Associate sowie in Labortechnik, Tierpflege, Qualitätssicherung, Verwaltung, IT und Einkauf. Vorausgesetzt werden je nach Funktion Abschlüsse in Biologie, Biochemie, Pharmazie oder Veterinärmedizin beziehungsweise eine einschlägige Laborausbildung. Lehrlinge werden in den Lehrberufen Labortechnik und Tierpflege ausgebildet, daneben bestehen Praktikumsplätze.
